Updated: Mar 8, 2023

With the right styling and accessories, we have helped the owners of this Waitakere home take the guest experience, and bookings, to the next level.

When Faye and Rex went on an extended overseas holiday in 2018, instead of paying for a house-sitter, they decided to make their Waitakere Ranges home available for short-term accommodation.

After reaching out to other management companies – who said this property was out of their scope due to its location – they came across The Stay Hub. Seeing its potential, we were keen to take it on.

In a short space of time, we had the property set up to receive guests, photographed and marketed, so Faye and Rex could relax on holiday.

‘With Eric and Jason’s help, we went on holiday with the peace of mind that our house was in good hands,’ says Rex. ‘We didn’t need to worry about managing guests or cleaning. We just waited for the “cheque to arrive in the mail”.’

After seeing the quality of The Stay Hub’s management and great rental returns, Faye and Rex opted to keep the property as a short-term rental on a permanent basis. Together, we mapped out a detailed plan for property improvement, marketing and revenue management, to make sure this was a successful full-time, short-term rental.

Step One of the plan: Transforming The Interior

Bedrooms now have new headboards and linen to create a more luxurious holiday feeling.

Step one of the plan was to transform what was a ‘family’ home into a ‘holiday’ home by adding all the comforts and amenities expected by this market.

As the home was virtually brand new, changes focused on adding warm colours to living spaces, along with some new furniture and soft furnishings. We also recommended a number of specialist items, such as a highchair and baby bath, so that all guests could feel at home.

With a list of recommendations, we then set a budget with the owners for the refurbishment – the right spend to maximise its appeal.

The beautiful bush setting and panoramic view were our starting points. We selected themed artwork, timber furniture and fabrics in natural colours and textures. Our project management and partnerships with product suppliers made this a quick and easy process.

The result is a warm and attractive interior ideal for families and professionals. With breath-taking views across the Auckland isthmus, Rex and Faye’s rental is proving popular with families and business travellers.

‘The Stay Hub team are easy to deal with, and we rely on them for guidance,’ says Rex. ‘They look after everything, deal with all the guest queries and hospitality. If they need something, they will ring to discuss it with us and make a plan. They also give guests a very good service.’
